PATRICIA EAKINS, NEW YORK, NY

WRITER PATRICIA EAKINS is the author of The Hungry Girls and Other Stories, which was reviewed in The New York Times Book Review. The title story was made into a work of movement theatre by girl& co; it premiered at New York’s Synchronicity Space in 1997. Les Affamees, the French translation of The Hungry Girls (by Francoise Palleau-Papin), was published by the University of Grenoble Press in 2003. Eakins is also the author of the novel The Marvelous Adventures of Pierre Baptiste, which won the NYU Press Prize for Fiction and the Capricorn Fiction Award of The Writer’s Voice. Eakins’s work has appeared in The Iowa Review, Parnassus, Conjunctions, Fiction International, BigCityLit.com and The Paris Review, which awarded her the Aga Khan Prize. In 2003, she was commissioned to write texts and song lyrics for Collision Theory’s Portrait (with Horse and Other), which premiered at HERE in New York City. Eakins is grateful for two creative-writing fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts. She has taught composition and creative writing at several colleges and universities, founded and edited the online magazine Frigate, curated the Sunday Best Reading Series, and co-curated the annual Outloud Festival of the Catskill Reading Society.
