Explore Japanese poetry forms. Please join us at Bright Hill for the opening of The World beyond Haiku Art Show in the Word & Image Gallery on Saturday, August 31, 2024, 1-4 pm.

Artists Leigh Yardley and Bill Lee are featured, their works entwined with the poetry of the workshop held at Bright Hill from June 17 – July 22.

Workshop leader, Poet Laureate of Onondaga County, and Poet Laureate Fellow of the Academy of American Poets Georgia Popoff will give a talk at 1:30 pm.

Leigh Yardley-Williams Rd Studio
Leigh creates work in paint and installation, situating herself as a part of the system of landscape Leigh retired from SUNY Morrisville in 2022 where she was awarded the New York State Chancellors Award for Excellence in Adjunct Teaching in the Visual Arts. She has actively pursued community based projects, receiving NYSCA Decentralization grants and facilitating the organization of several arts programs. She participated in the NYFA MARK program and has been a NYFA Statewide Artist Consultant. As a Visiting Teaching Artist for CNY Aesthetic Education Program she trained with the Lincoln Center Teaching Artist Mentoring Project and Advance Seminar for Teaching Artist at the Guggenheim. Yardley received her MFA from Lesley University College of Art and Design and undergraduate degrees at Skidmore College and SUNY @Oswego. She has exhibiting widely since 1994. Her work can be found at Cazenovia Artisans, Cazenovia NY. She resides in Hubbardsville NY with her husband Bruce Moseley.

Bill Lee
Bill was raised in a family that had considerable appreciation for the arts and culture, a brother in architecture, a sister in fashion, and a sister in journalism. As an English major at UMass, Amherst (before you had to specify Amherst), Bill took oil painting, printmaking, and aesthetics as electives. During the latter part of his civil service career for the City of New York, Bill enrolled in private classes with Cliff Enright, a noted pastelist and water colorist, and at the Art Students League. His many silkscreen prints and pastel landscapes are represented in many private collections and in the Art Students League’s permanent collection.

Georgia A. Popoff is a writer, editor, arts-in-education specialist, and a program coordinator for the YMCA of Central NY’s Writers Voice, where she teaches poetry and creative nonfiction. Her fourth collection of poetry, Psychometry, released in late 2019 by Tiger Bark Press, was a finalist for Utica College’s Eugene Nassar Poetry Prize and the CNY Book Award for Poetry. Tiger Bark Press released her fifth collection, Living with Haints in spring 2024. In 2022, Georgia was named Poet Laureate of Onondaga County for a 2-year term of service. She is the series editor for the University of Michigan Press Under Discussion book series on contemporary poets.
